Prince Albert authorities announced the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The search, which involved the city’s public works, fire departments, and Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, led to the finding of the body close to the 300 block of 40th Street East, according to a police statement.
An autopsy is set for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and determine the cause and circumstances of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, stated that the police informed her they believe the body belongs to her daughter but declined to provide further comments.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death, as mentioned in the police release. Prior to this discovery, authorities and Flett’s family made a public appeal for any information that could assist in locating her during a news conference held on Wednesday.
Flett was last seen on June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue close to the Northern Lights Casino. Law enforcement officers are currently present at the location where the remains were found, conducting investigations in a wooded area near 40th Street. Traffic restrictions are in place on the street, and the police urge the public to avoid the area, promising to share more details as they become available.
