Man Faces 56 Charges Including Rape and Assault

A man has been brought before the court on charges of committing a series of disturbing crimes, including drugging and sexually assaulting his former spouse over a period of 13 years.

Philip Young, previously residing in Swindon but currently residing in Enfield, faces a total of 56 charges, which include multiple accusations of rape, possession of illicit images of minors, and voyeurism. The 49-year-old is further alleged to have administered a substance with the intent to incapacitate for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts, as well as possessing explicit material.

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Young was attired in dark blue jeans and a black zip-up sweater. He only spoke to verify his name and address before taking a seat. Young has been detained in custody.

The victim, who has chosen to waive her right to anonymity, is identified as Joanne Young, 48, the former spouse of Philip Young. Joanne has permitted her name to be disclosed in the media and is receiving support from specialized officers and partner organizations, as per Wiltshire Police. The police have requested that her privacy be respected.

Additionally, five other individuals have been accused of sexual offenses against Ms. Young between 2010 and 2023, which include rape and sexual assault.

Norman Macksoni, Dean Hamilton, Conner Sanderson Doyle, Richard Wilkins, and Mohammed Hassan are the other accused parties. They are scheduled to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court later in the afternoon at 2 pm.

Young has been instructed to attend Swindon Crown Court on January 23, 2026. He showed no reaction as he was handcuffed by the dock officer and led away to the cells.

Magistrate Martin Clarke informed Young that his case would be transferred to Swindon Crown Court. He inquired if Young wished to enter a plea, to which Young answered negatively.

Addressing Young, Mr. Clarke stated, “You understand the proceedings today… Very brief. We are transferring this case to the crown court. You will remain in custody until that time.”

Young was directed to be present at Swindon Crown Court by 9:30 am on January 23 for a 10 am commencement.
