Apple has announced the imminent launch of iOS 26, a major update for iPhone users. The new operating system will introduce a range of enhancements, including a revamped Liquid Glass design, an innovative lock screen, real-time translation services for travelers, and improved spam call blocking.
iOS 26 also brings enhancements to Messages, Mail, Photos, and Maps, which now offers personalized routing options. While the release date is confirmed for September 15, Apple has not specified the exact time of the rollout. Based on past releases, it is anticipated to become available around 6pm BST.
To download iOS 26, users are advised to connect to a Wi-Fi network due to the expected large file size. Once released, the update can be accessed by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update on the device. Given the high demand for the update, installation may take longer, especially if done during peak times.
It is important to note that not all iPhone models are compatible with iOS 26. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are among the devices that will not receive the latest update. Compatible models include iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, and later generations of iPhone SE.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, highlighted the aesthetic and functional improvements of iOS 26, emphasizing its enhanced design and user-focused features. The update aims to provide a more personalized and efficient user experience with new capabilities and Apple Intelligence integration.
Users can expect a more intuitive and engaging interface, with enhanced functionalities across various apps to streamline daily tasks and prioritize meaningful connections.
