“Henderson’s Constitution Hill set to face off against The New Lion in anticipated clash”

Published:

Nicky Henderson remains calm and confident as the highly anticipated showdown between Constitution Hill and up-and-comer The New Lion approaches this Saturday. Constitution Hill, a former jumping sensation with an impeccable ten-race winning streak, faced setbacks last season, including falls at the Champion Hurdle and Aintree races.

Henderson disclosed that Constitution Hill underwent thorough assessments, even visiting an equine vision specialist, to ensure his readiness for the upcoming challenges. Currently, he stands as the third favorite at 5-1 for the next year’s Champion Hurdle, trailing behind Willie Mullins’ mare Lossiemouth and The New Lion, who are set to clash at the BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle.

The upcoming duel will test Constitution Hill’s form against The New Lion, the victor of the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival. The competition includes entries from Willie Mullins’ Anzadam and the reigning Champion Hurdle winner Golden Ace.

Bookmakers Coral have the contenders closely matched with odds of 11-8 for both Constitution Hill and The New Lion, followed by 3-1 for Anzadam, 20-1 for Golden Ace, and 33-1 for Nemean Lion. Henderson expressed confidence in Constitution Hill’s preparation, highlighting positive training sessions and the horse’s upbeat demeanor.

The event will witness a competitive field with Nemean Lion’s late addition, prompting considerations for pacing strategies. Henderson, focused on the upcoming races, plans to be present at Newbury while the owner, Michael Buckley, will attend the Newcastle event.
