Published:

In Suffolk County, New York, Albaro Chacon, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national, was convicted of multiple charges including attempted assault, assault, tampering with evidence, and endangering the welfare of children after a violent incident at a woman’s home in Brentwood. The victim woke up to find Chacon standing over her with a knife, threatening her life.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, Chacon attacked the woman with the knife, causing stab wounds to her arms as she defended herself. During the assault, the woman protected her two-year-old niece who was also present in the room, before fleeing the house and seeking help from a passing motorist to call the authorities. It was later discovered that the couple’s two children had been left unattended in the car.

The woman managed to escape, prompting Chacon to follow her outside. The victim’s son urged Chacon to go back inside while she contacted the police. Upon investigation, it was noted that Chacon had attempted to clean the crime scene by using bleach and removing sheets from the bed where the attack took place. Police arrived shortly after and arrested Chacon at the scene.

The victim was treated for her injuries at South Shore University Hospital, while Chacon was later found guilty on multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child. He was sentenced to 15 to 17 years in prison for offenses that included attempted assault, assault, tampering with physical evidence, and endangering the welfare of children.

Raymond A. Tierney, the District Attorney for Suffolk County, expressed satisfaction with the verdict, acknowledging the trauma experienced by the victim and her children. He emphasized the long-lasting impact of domestic violence on families and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
