“US to Maintain Control Over Venezuela’s Oil Industry Indefinitely”

Published:

The United States has announced its intention to maintain control over Venezuela’s oil industry for an unspecified duration, with Energy Secretary Chris Wright stating that the US plans to oversee the sale of Venezuela’s oil production “indefinitely.” This decision comes after President Donald Trump mentioned that Venezuela would transfer millions of barrels of oil to the United States soon.

In efforts to pressure Venezuela to open up its struggling oil sector to American investment, the White House is arranging a meeting with US oil company executives, including representatives from Exxon, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips. The Trump administration aims to align Venezuela’s energy industry with US interests by granting access to American companies.

Following a US military operation targeting the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, Venezuelan officials reported the deaths of 24 security officers. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has resisted Trump’s calls for reforms, warning of consequences worse than Maduro’s fate if Venezuela does not comply with US demands.

Additionally, the US intercepted a Venezuela-associated oil tanker, the Marinera, off the coast of British waters. The vessel, previously known as Bella-1, was boarded by US forces in the North Atlantic following Trump’s naval blockade of Venezuela. The seizure was conducted without any reported gunfire, with American law enforcement officials now on board the tanker.

Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of Defense, emphasized the continuation of the blockade on sanctioned Venezuelan oil globally. The seizure of the Marinera in the North Atlantic aligns with Trump’s efforts to target vessels posing threats to the security and stability of the Western Hemisphere.
