“Team GB Makes History with Double Golds in Skeleton & Snowboard Cross”

Published:

Tabby Stoecker was filled with emotion upon winning a gold medal at her debut Winter Olympics in the skeleton mixed team event with men’s individual champion Matt Weston. This victory surpassed their previous silver medals at the last two World Championships, setting a track record of 1:59.36. Weston’s outstanding performance turned a 0.30-second deficit from Stoecker’s run into a 0.17-second triumph.

With this win, Weston became a double Olympic champion over the weekend, a feat only achieved previously by two-time women’s skeleton winner Lizzy Yarnold. Team GB celebrated a historic Super Sunday with Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale’s gold in the snowboard cross mixed team final – a first for Britain on snow rather than ice. This marked Team GB’s first multiple gold medals at any Winter Olympics, let alone two on the same day.

For Stoecker, this victory marked her first major world-level win after joining British Skeleton through the Discover Your Gold talent identification program seven years ago. Expressing her gratitude to Matt before the medal ceremony, Stoecker was visibly emotional and highlighted the teamwork that led to their success.

Weston emphasized the confidence gained from his individual event and stressed the importance of focusing on the task at hand to secure victory. Both athletes reflected on the significance of their achievement, aiming to inspire future generations in the sport.

Looking ahead, the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics from February 6-22 will offer fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. During the games, a £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription will grant access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage.
