“Tragic Shooting: Stepfather Allegedly Shoots Wife, Daughter”

Published:

A young girl made a heartbreaking plea to her stepfather after he allegedly shot her in the face following the murder of her mother in a drunken rage.

Jason Kenney, 47, is accused of shooting his wife, Crystal, when she asked him to turn off the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday, as per Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd during a press briefing.

Kenney, who had been drinking, got into a heated argument with his wife over the TV, which led to Crystal asking her 12-year-old son to call 999. As the boy ran to a neighbor’s house for help, he heard gunshots.

Upon arrival, the police found Crystal dead inside the house, and her 13-year-old daughter had been shot in the face and shoulder. The girl recounted to investigators how she begged not to be shot, but Kenney did so anyway.

The injured girl was quickly taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and is now recovering. Sheriff Judd described the trajectory of the bullet as miraculous, saying it went through her nose bridge and out of the top of her head, likening it to a “Christmas miracle.”

The son who sought help was unharmed, as was the couple’s one-year-old daughter found safe in her crib. Kenney fled the scene but later confessed to his sister about the horrific act before taking his own life at his father’s house where the police later located him.

According to Judd, officers found a note written by Crystal urging her husband to seek help for his substance abuse issues during a search of the family home. The children are currently under the care of their grandparents.

“The entire family has been devastated,” Judd expressed. “Our investigators are deeply affected. Walking into the house, you see a beautiful Christmas tree with presents, a scene of what a family should be like.”
