Three individuals have been apprehended following the disturbing discovery of 29 deceased dogs in a backyard, with an additional 24 dogs found inside the property in poor health. The police were alerted by a concerned neighbor, leading to the arrest of Curtis Dewayne Haralson, Patricia Ann Sims, and Tiffany Ann Sims. Authorities found the deceased dogs placed in plastic bags in the yard, ranging from puppies to adult canines. The surviving dogs, ranging in age from puppies to adults, were taken into custody.
Although no charges have been filed yet, the ongoing investigation is likely to result in felony charges against the three suspects. In a separate incident in Alabama, a couple, Marchelle Pertilla and Eugene Medrano, were arrested for child neglect after their 14-year-old daughter was found living in unsanitary conditions in a trailer with several dogs, one of which was deceased. Pertilla faces charges of child abuse and multiple counts of dog cruelty, while Medrano is charged with dog cruelty offenses. The authorities discovered filth and a deceased dog in the trailer, which was covered in waste and insects. The young girl revealed that her mother and stepfather had left her in Alabama while they were residing in Florida.
Sheriff Paul Burch expressed concern over the girl’s situation and the lack of intervention from others. Investigations revealed that the parents left the girl alone, claiming she refused to leave her service animals. The parents were charged after their visit to the hospital. Sheriff Burch emphasized the importance of understanding why the girl was left alone and if anyone attempted to alert law enforcement about the situation.
