“Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn Discharged After Severe Leg Injury”

Published:

Lindsey Vonn, the renowned skier, recently announced her discharge from the hospital after a serious leg injury during the Winter Olympics in Italy. Vonn had to be airlifted to the hospital during the downhill event due to an ACL injury she suffered earlier.

Following multiple surgeries, Vonn was initially released from the Italian hospital to return to the United States for further medical care. In a moving Instagram post, she detailed her injuries, including compartment syndrome and a fractured ankle, and expressed gratitude towards her surgeon, Dr. Tom Hackett, who averted the possibility of amputation through a fasciotomy procedure.

In a video on Instagram, Vonn explained the complexity of her injuries, highlighting the impact of compartment syndrome on the affected area. She credited Dr. Hackett for his crucial role in saving her leg through a successful surgery that lasted six hours.

Despite a longer-than-expected hospital stay due to low hemoglobin levels from surgeries, Vonn is now out of the hospital but remains in a wheelchair as she recuperates from a broken ankle. She plans to transition to crutches in the coming weeks and anticipates a lengthy recovery process, including potential additional surgeries for complete healing.

Vonn expressed her gratitude for the support received and emphasized her commitment to rehabilitation and eventual return to physical activity. She acknowledged the challenges faced during the injury but remained optimistic about her recovery journey.
