Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to chase further glory this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month, following his entry into the World Seniors Snooker Championship.
At 50 years old, O’Sullivan, known as “The Rocket,” continues to display his competitive edge on the tour, gearing up to face off against other players in the senior circuit. He will strive to clinch the championship for an unprecedented eighth time when he makes his 34th consecutive appearance at the World Championship this spring.
Making his debut in the senior tournament, O’Sullivan will stay in Yorkshire for the event, commencing on May 6 and spanning five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has officially announced O’Sullivan’s participation, emphasizing his status as one of the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figures.
The tournament will feature a star-studded lineup including former world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty, alongside notable players such as Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and others. Jason Francis, the Chairman of the event, expressed excitement about O’Sullivan’s debut, expecting a surge in ticket sales due to the snooker icon’s involvement.
Following the 2025 World Championship, the World Snooker Tour has relaxed regulations, allowing professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete in senior events. O’Sullivan, with seven world titles under his belt, aims to add to his impressive record, with his last victory in 2022 tying him with Stephen Hendry.
Hendry, a snooker legend in his own right, has voiced his support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth world title, citing his admiration for the younger player’s achievements. O’Sullivan’s quest for further glory in the snooker world continues to captivate fans and peers alike, setting the stage for an exciting tournament at the Crucible.
