Turmoil in Venezuela: Maduro ousted, gunfire near palace

Published:

Venezuela experienced turmoil on Monday night as reports of intense gunfire near the presidential palace in Caracas emerged following the abrupt ousting of President Nicolás Maduro from his position.

Videos shared on social media captured the sound of continuous gunfire reverberating throughout the capital, with footage showing armed individuals moving around the area near the Miraflores Palace and engaging in gunfire.

Residents in the vicinity reported hearing what they described as “anti-aircraft” explosions near the palace as chaos unfolded in the streets after Maduro and his spouse were allegedly taken from their residence and transported to the United States to face drug trafficking accusations. Witnesses mentioned seeing drones and anti-aircraft fire illuminating the night sky around 8:15pm local time.

President Donald Trump stated the United States’ readiness to aid in reconstructing Venezuela’s deteriorated infrastructure, proposing a potential 18-month period before new elections could be held. Trump highlighted the necessity for stabilizing the nation before conducting elections and emphasized the need to restore the country’s well-being.

Meanwhile, China issued a concise demand after US special forces swiftly apprehended Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, raising concerns about escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington DC.

Maduro and his spouse were seized and taken from their residence in a daring nighttime operation, with both facing charges, including narco-terrorism and drug smuggling into the US. The raid sparked global shockwaves as the US demonstrated its willingness to challenge international conventions and take decisive action against perceived threats. Beijing and Moscow, allies against US influence, expressed outrage over Maduro’s extradition to the US for trial.

The Chinese government demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his spouse, expressing grave apprehension about their removal from the country.
