Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker will join the team on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US upon meeting certain undisclosed criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making his Premier League debut starting from the next season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton follows his successful tenure at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Aged 25, David represented Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has accumulated four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 side before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 with FIFA’s approval following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.
David’s journey to Brighton marks another chapter in his diverse career, having previously plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign.
Brighton, a consistent presence in the Premier League over the past nine seasons, finished in eighth place in the previous season, setting the stage for David to make his mark in the English top flight.
