The recent performance evaluations of major mobile providers in the UK have highlighted Three Mobile as the top choice for those seeking fast download speeds while on the move. According to Ookla’s latest tests, Three Mobile emerged as the leader, surpassing its main competitors with an average download speed of 214Mbps, which is significantly faster than the nearest rival by over 80Mbps. This speed also doubles the average fixed-line broadband speed in the UK, showcasing remarkable performance.
Vodafone secured the second position in the rankings, followed by EE in third place. O2, on the other hand, ranked at the bottom across all categories, offering the slowest speeds overall.
Ookla confirmed the results by stating that “3 is the Fastest 5G Network in the United Kingdom, Q3–Q4 2025.” The Speedtest Award for Fastest Network is determined by the Speed Score, which measures a network’s throughput and responsiveness, combining download and upload speeds with latency metrics for an overall speed performance assessment.
Key Results from Ookla:
– Overall Speed Score:
– Three: 53.46
– Vodafone: 43.05
– EE: 36.73
– O2: 30.70
– Median download speeds:
– Three: 214Mbps
– Vodafone: 129.78Mbps
– EE: 97Mbps
– O2: 78.92Mbps
– Median upload speeds:

While testing mobile networks can be challenging due to varying network conditions and user mobility between different locations, these results position Three as the leader. Moreover, the merger with Vodafone is expected to enhance performance further. The newly combined VodafoneThree aims to establish the UK’s superior mobile network through an £11 billion investment.
Following the merger in May, VodafoneThree has initiated network integration utilizing “Multi-Operator Core Network” technology. This integration enables Vodafone and Three customers to seamlessly connect to each other’s networks without additional charges, potentially enhancing coverage and performance nationwide.
