Published:

Boxing icon Anthony Joshua has been released from the hospital after being under observation for minor injuries sustained in a car crash that claimed the lives of two of his close friends. The regional authorities in Lagos and Ogun states confirmed that Joshua, 36, is now recovering at his residence.

The accident occurred when the vehicle Joshua was traveling in collided with a stationary truck near Lagos, resulting in the tragic deaths of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Joshua and his mother paid their respects at a funeral home before the friends’ repatriation to the UK.

A statement revealed that despite the emotional toll of losing his friends, Joshua was discharged from the hospital and is deemed fit to recuperate at home. The medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi, who provided care to Joshua and others injured in the crash, was praised for their professionalism and quality of service.

Following the incident, Nigerian police initiated a search for the truck driver involved in the accident. While the driver remains at large, the damaged truck has been located at Sagamu car pound. The vehicle, registered to a Lagos-based company, displayed significant damage and was found in an illegal parking position.

Joshua, a British-Nigerian boxer, was on vacation in Nigeria following his recent victory over Jake Paul in Florida. He sustained minor injuries in the crash, with investigations revealing that the truck was illegally parked at the time of the collision.

Moreover, the driver of Joshua’s vehicle has also been discharged from the hospital, with potential legal repercussions for reckless driving. Nigerian police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the driver is cooperating with authorities by providing his statement.

Overall, Joshua’s recovery and the ongoing investigation into the accident continue to generate public interest and concern over road safety in Nigeria.
