“O2 Unveils Free 5G+ Upgrade Nationwide”

Published:

O2 has officially announced a significant free upgrade for millions of its users, introducing faster 5G+ connectivity throughout the UK. This enhancement aims to provide improved mobile coverage and faster download speeds, offering users a 50% increase compared to the previous 4G network.

Apart from speed and reliability enhancements, the upgrade is expected to lead to extended battery life for devices. This is because devices utilizing 5G+ no longer need to simultaneously connect to both 4G and 5G networks, resulting in reduced power consumption. Unlike conventional 5G networks that rely on 4G infrastructure for support, 5G+ operates independently.

The rollout of this upgrade has already begun for users with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, covering over 700 towns and cities across the country.

Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the broad availability of the 5G+ service, stating that it is accessible to all O2 customers on any plan, unlike other networks. This upgrade is designed to enhance performance in high-traffic areas, including popular venues, benefiting both residents and visitors. It reflects Virgin Media O2’s commitment to enhancing network capabilities and ensuring a more reliable user experience, with ongoing investments of £2 million daily to support customers in embracing upcoming mobile innovations.

To check the availability of 5G+ in your area, you can use O2’s postcode checker tool provided on their website.

Notable devices compatible with 5G+ include the iPhone 15, iPhone 16 (including 16e), iPhone 17, Google Pixel 9 series (including Fold), and Google Pixel 10 series (including Fold).

5G+ represents an advanced iteration of 5G networks, utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as higher-frequency spectrum, improved antennas, and network optimization to deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and increased capacity for users.
