Horror images of a fatal fire that claimed the lives of nearly 50 individuals and injured over 100 in Switzerland have captured a series of tragic moments – from the initial spark that ignited the fire to the ensuing chaos as it rapidly spread across the ceiling of a small bar.
The blaze broke out at 1:30 am on January 1 during a New Year’s Eve celebration in the ski resort of Crans-Montana, resulting in the death of 47 people, with many others rushed to hospitals, some in critical condition. Witnesses at the event reported that the fire started when staff entered the bar carrying champagne bottles and flares, which inadvertently set the bar’s canopy ablaze.
Authorities are investigating the flares as a potential cause of the fire, supported by videos and images that seem to capture the moment one of the flares ignited the building.
