An Australian man has tragically passed away, and a woman is in critical condition after a devastating scooter accident. Bryce Alexander Black and Samantha Baillie, a couple from the New South Wales Central Coast in Australia, were involved in a head-on collision with a car while riding a scooter in North Kuta, Bali, around 4:30 am on Sunday. Mr. Black, a father, unfortunately lost his life at the scene on Petitenget Street, as confirmed by law firm Bali Legals.
Ms. Baillie, a mother of two, was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has been initiated by her friend, Savannah-Leigh Homer, to assist with the substantial medical expenses. Ms. Homer stated that Ms. Baillie sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull, brain bleeding, multiple broken fingers, hand injuries, pelvic injuries, and extensive foot injuries, resulting in a long and uncertain road to recovery.
This was Ms. Baillie’s first overseas trip, having arrived in Bali just a day before the tragic incident. Ms. Homer mentioned that it was supposed to be a joyous occasion as Ms. Baillie embarked on a new journey in her life by exploring a foreign country.
Ms. Homer and Ms. Baillie’s mother have flown to Bali to manage the escalating medical costs and organize her repatriation to Australia. They have already paid $6000 for initial hospital care and are now facing a medical bill of $52,000, with additional expenses anticipated, creating a significant financial burden.
As of 9:30 pm GMT on Friday, the fundraiser had gathered $51,536 in donations. Online tributes have poured in for Mr. Black, with individuals expressing their condolences and sending love and support to both families.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for providing consular aid to Australians abroad, confirmed their assistance to the families of Ms. Baillie and Mr. Black during this challenging period. A spokesperson extended their deepest sympathies to the affected families.
