A prominent female jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, a decorated rider, faced a violent attack in 2023 by a group attempting to steal her vehicle. The assailants threw a brick through her car window and struck her face with a rock, resulting in a broken nose, cut lip, and three broken front teeth just three weeks before her wedding day. Despite the alarm being raised, the perpetrators fled and remain at large.
Recalling the harrowing experience of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse named Jumping Power Two, owned by her husband Tommy, Logan recounted the moment when the horse was startled and collapsed on top of her during a race event. She suffered a crushed pelvis and required immediate medical attention. Logan was transported to Darwin Royal Hospital and later airlifted to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries. Surgical intervention involved the insertion of screws and a plate to stabilize her fractured hip.
Reflecting on the excruciating pain she endured, Logan expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, acknowledging the potential fatality had the impact been on her ribs instead of her pelvis. Following the incident, Logan is currently recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame, anticipating a six to eight-month rehabilitation period before returning to her passion for horse riding.
Despite the physical and emotional challenges she has faced, including a previous carjacking incident, Logan has demonstrated resilience by embracing competitive bodybuilding as a means to overcome anxiety and depression.
