Millions of Gmail users are receiving a significant update from Google. The tech giant has announced the launch of a new feature allowing users to change their email addresses, offering a solution for those who are dissatisfied with their current Gmail account names.
According to Google, this update enhances users’ digital identity by enabling them to modify their Google Account usernames, the part before @gmail.com, used for accessing various services such as Gmail, Photos, and Drive.
One of the benefits of this update is that both the original and the new email addresses will function simultaneously, ensuring that users do not miss any incoming messages.
Google reassures users that their account data, including photos, messages, and emails, will remain intact and unaffected by the change. However, this update is currently only available in the United States, leaving users in the UK waiting for its rollout.
For users in the US, Google advises accessing the Google account settings, navigating to personal info, selecting email, then Google account email, and finally choosing the option to change the Google account email to set a new and unique username. It is important to note that users can create a new address only once every 12 months.
If you are in the US, now is the time to review your settings and see if the update has been implemented in your account.
