An eight-year-old child was abducted and killed by a heinous murderer, who then dismembered the body and stored the victim’s feet in his freezer. Levi Aron, the twisted perpetrator, passed away in prison recently, marking the 15th anniversary of his despicable act.
The tragic incident unfolded when the young boy, Leiby Kletzky, ventured home alone for the first time. Lost and seeking directions, he encountered Aron, leading to a horrifying turn of events.
Leiby, returning from a religious camp in Borough Park, Brooklyn, on July 11, 2011, was supposed to meet his mother halfway. Despite practicing the route with his parents the day before, he strayed and sought assistance from Aron, unknowingly sealing his fate.
Aron later confessed to diverting the child to a wedding in Rockland County, only to discover a massive search operation upon his return to Kensington. The killer recounted a night of watching TV with the boy before parting ways in the morning for work, where he crafted a macabre story involving a tuna sandwich for the captive child.
Borough Park, known for its Orthodox Jewish community, rallied thousands of volunteers in the search for the missing boy. Amid the panic, Aron drugged and suffocated Leiby before dismembering and discarding the remains, yet keeping the victim’s feet in his freezer near the boy’s residence.
Police apprehended Aron on July 13, prompted by surveillance footage and blood traces in his residence. The gruesome discovery of body parts, including the child’s feet in the freezer and the rest in a dumpster, led to Aron’s confession and subsequent imprisonment.
Aron admitted guilt to kidnapping and murdering the young Hasidic community member, receiving a sentence of 40 years to life in prison. Nearly 15 years into his confinement, Aron passed away in a hospital at 49, after being transferred from Wende Correctional Facility due to a medical condition.
Requesting an autopsy, Aron’s Brooklyn-based family, who endured numerous death threats following the murder, sought closure. Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Nachman Kletzky, condemned the senseless act that claimed his son’s life, refraining from commenting on Aron’s demise.
