US immigration officials have been involved in a total of 26 shooting incidents since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025. The most recent event, captured on video, occurred in Minneapolis today, marking the 12th shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents since the start of the year.
A disturbing video surfaced earlier today showing ICE agents allegedly shooting an unarmed individual in Minneapolis near Glam Doll Donuts. The footage depicts agents wrestling the person to the ground before opening fire while the person lies motionless.
Of the 26 shootings involving ICE since Trump’s second term commenced, six resulted in fatalities. These incidents have taken place across at least 15 states and the District of Columbia, occurring during various encounters such as traffic stops, arrests, border enforcement actions, and off-duty incidents. Both ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) fall under the Department of Homeland Security.
Reports and media sources have highlighted a notable number of shootings where officers fired at or into moving vehicles. The Wall Street Journal identified 13 cases since July 2025 where immigration officers shot at or into civilian vehicles, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities, including incidents involving US citizens.
The earliest fatal shooting during this period occurred in Coventry, Vermont, on January 20, 2025, when CBP agents engaged in a shootout near the Canadian border, resulting in the deaths of Agent David Maland and Ophelia Baukholt. Subsequent fatal incidents include the shooting of a Mexican man in Texas and the killing of Keith Porter, a Black father, in Los Angeles.
Further incidents involved injuries but no deaths, such as the shooting of Marimar Martinez in Chicago and a CBP shooting in Portland, Oregon. In some cases, suspects attempted to flee in vehicles, leading to confrontations with agents resulting in injuries or vehicle crashes.
Numerous shootings have sparked public outcry and protests. For instance, a shooting in North Minneapolis led to demonstrators gathering at the scene, protesting against ICE agents. Additionally, incidents involving ICE officers shooting individuals during attempted arrests have raised questions and scrutiny from local authorities and witnesses.
Overall, the series of shooting incidents involving US immigration agencies have drawn attention to the use of force and tactics employed during enforcement operations. The shootings have raised concerns about accountability and proper training within federal immigration enforcement agencies.
