During a court session, it was revealed that Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, informed Metropolitan Police officers that he has a close relationship with a woman who is an alleged victim of rape.
Barron Trump, aged 19, reached out to the UK police force while in the US after witnessing an assault on the alleged victim, a resident of London, through a video call. Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, a Russian national, is currently facing trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court on charges that include assault and two counts of rape against the said victim.
According to court testimonies, the son of the US president contacted the woman, who remains anonymous for legal reasons, via FaceTime on January 18 last year. Shortly after the incident, Barron spoke to London police, expressing his concern that the woman was being assaulted.
A transcript provided by the Crown Prosecution Service detailed Barron’s call to the police where he urgently reported the assault he had witnessed. He mentioned, “Oh I’m calling from the US, uh I just got a call from a girl, you know, she’s getting beat up. This was happening about eight minutes ago. I just figured out how to, how to call someone. Uh, uh it’s really an emergency.”
When questioned about the source of his knowledge regarding the assault, Barron responded, “I don’t think these details matter she’s getting beat up but okay fine, also I met her on social media, I don’t think that matters.” The operator insisted on clear and precise answers, to which Barron later apologized for his initial response.
During the investigation, Barron was asked if he would provide a witness statement, to which he responded via email on May 2, describing the incident he witnessed as “very brief indeed, but indeed prevalent.”
In his email, Barron explained how he contacted the police after seeing the assault take place and mentioned that the victim had informed him of the ongoing difficulties she faced due to the accused individual.
Despite attempts to reach Barron for further information, no response was received to subsequent emails sent by the police. The alleged victim expressed her gratitude towards Barron, stating that his intervention had a significant impact on the situation.
Rumiantsev, a resident of Poplar, east London, has denied the charges of assault, rape, intentional strangulation, and perverting the course of justice. Allegations suggest that the accused, a former MMA fighter, was envious of the victim’s friendship with Barron Trump and reacted violently during the incident.
According to the victim, Rumiantsev assaulted her multiple times, including two instances of rape. Defence counsel Sasha Wass KC has disputed the victim’s version of events, claiming it to be fabricated and suggesting that the accused restrained her due to her alleged aggression.
The trial is ongoing with further proceedings scheduled.
