Anthony Joshua recently paid his respects to his late friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, at a funeral home following his discharge from the hospital. Joshua, who sustained minor injuries in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, sadly lost both friends in the tragic incident.
Having been released from the hospital in Lagos, the British boxer will now focus on his recovery at his home in Nigeria. Before doing so, he accompanied his mother to visit the funeral home where Ghami and Ayodele were laid to rest.
A statement from local government officials expressed condolences to the families of the deceased individuals and highlighted the sorrow felt over the loss. Joshua, although deeply affected by the tragedy, was cleared for home recovery after his hospital discharge.
Both the Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the outpouring of support and sympathy from the public. They also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his assistance and praised the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their exceptional care.
The car accident involving Joshua occurred when his black SUV collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of his friends. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities searching for the truck driver who illegally parked on the highway shoulder at the time of the accident.
Following his hospital discharge, the SUV driver provided a statement to the police. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi of Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding and a burst tire led to the loss of control and subsequent collision with the parked truck.
