“Apple’s Enhanced AirTag: A Game-Changer for Tracking Lost Items”

Published:

Apple’s AirTag is a must-have for those prone to misplacing keys. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers quickly gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. Their small size allows them to be easily attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.

When in close proximity to the AirTag, iPhone users receive precise on-screen directions and can activate a sound to aid in locating the item. The latest AirTag iteration boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, offering a significantly extended range.

Apple claims that this enhancement improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, enabling users to locate lost items from greater distances. Additionally, Precision Finding now also works on select Apple Watch models, allowing users to track misplaced items directly from their wrist.

The new AirTag features a redesigned internal speaker that emits sounds 50% louder than its predecessor. This enhancement is beneficial for locating the device when it is hidden in hard-to-reach places.

AirTags leverage Apple’s Find My network, which utilizes nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system prioritizes privacy, with Apple ensuring that AirTags do not store location history on the device and that all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end for owner confidentiality.

Moreover, the AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties like airlines to aid in recovering lost belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.

The new AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original AirTag’s starting price of £35.
