A military veteran was fatally shot during a tragic incident at his residence following a Facebook Marketplace meetup that took a deadly turn. Michael Ryan Burke, aged 42, was in the process of selling an item when the exchange escalated into a robbery involving a mobile phone on a fateful Sunday. In a distressing final call to law enforcement, Burke provided descriptions of the alleged assailants before bidding a heartbreaking farewell to his family.
Authorities in Columbia, Missouri, have apprehended three 18-year-olds and a juvenile male in connection with the murder. Burke was shot inside his home and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Alexis Baumann, 18, faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary, while Kobe Aust, 18, has been arrested for similar charges.
Joseph Crane, 18, was taken into custody for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon. Additionally, a male juvenile, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon.
A close friend of Ryan, Jerry Reifeiss, who met him through a university fraternity, shared details of Burke’s final moments in a poignant interview with 13KRCG. According to Jerry, Burke’s bravery mirrored his resilience from his military service as he clung on to call for emergency assistance and inform his family of his dire situation.
The Columbia Missouri Police Department stated that officers administered medical aid until emergency services arrived to transport Burke to a local medical facility, where he later passed away. Next of kin have been notified of the tragic incident.
Reflecting on Burke’s selfless nature, Jerry remarked, “That was just Ryan. He always put people in front of him and wanted to make sure people know how he felt.” He added that Burke was determined to provide crucial information to ensure justice for the perpetrators and express his love for his loved ones before his passing.
In a separate incident, a suspected contract killer disguised as a Deliveroo rider received a 38-year jail sentence for shooting an eight-year-old girl and her father. Jazz Reid fired multiple shots, causing injuries to the young girl and her 34-year-old father.
