Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that the current season in the Saudi Pro League may mark the conclusion of his illustrious career. The 41-year-old football icon’s contract with Al-Nassr, which was inked in December 2022, is set to expire in June, with little possibility of an extension, as per his interview with Vogue magazine. Ronaldo expressed that he is likely approaching the end of his football journey, aiming to depart with a remarkable legacy.
With an impressive tally of 976 career goals, the Portuguese forward recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez. Ronaldo shared his plans for the future, emphasizing the need to diversify activities post-retirement to fill the void left by football. He mentioned a variety of interests, including travel, padel, and savoring the fruits of his hard-earned success over 25 years of dedication and sacrifice.
The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th as a professional, during which he has clinched five Ballon d’Or accolades and five UEFA Champions League titles. His exceptional performance last season, contributing 28 league goals, propelled Al-Nassr to victory in the Saudi Arabian league, securing their first title since 2019.
Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s initial match of the season, observing from the sidelines as they commenced their title defense with a 3-0 triumph over Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s continuous support and hinted at his potential participation in the upcoming King’s Cup game against Al-Diriyah.
Ronaldo’s contemplation on retirement coincides with Lionel Messi’s disclosure of uncertainties about his future in football after his father’s passing. Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about continuing in the sport that has defined his career, highlighting a potential shift in his trajectory.
