A massive sinkhole opened up in front of a luxurious coastal mansion in Malibu, believed to be owned by actor Nicolas Cage, causing the driveway to collapse. The incident led to a gas leak that was swiftly addressed by authorities and utility services. The sinkhole, estimated to be 7.5 to nine meters deep and 18 meters wide, extended into the roadway, prompting a local emergency declaration and evacuation order for 31 properties in the vicinity.
Although representatives for Cage did not respond to inquiries, property records indicate that he acquired the property in 2024. The mansion sustained damage during a coastal flooding advisory in the Los Angeles area due to the remnants of Hurricane Marie, which reverted to a tropical storm. The adverse weather conditions, featuring heavy rain and hazardous waves, affected the Southern California coastline over the holiday period.
The City of Malibu highlighted that the sinkhole incident is part of broader coastal challenges in the region, with ongoing monitoring of erosion in various vulnerable areas along the coast. The exclusive neighborhood housing Cage’s mansion is nestled between the ocean and the renowned Pacific Coast Highway.
Nicolas Cage, aged 62, recently starred in the Amazon series “Spider-Noir” and is set to portray John Madden in an upcoming biographical film about the NFL personality. With a prolific acting career spanning over 100 films, Cage has garnered critical acclaim, including an Oscar for his role in “Leaving Las Vegas.”
