“Tesco Clubcard to Extend Eligibility to Under 18s”

Tesco is currently in the process of actively reviewing a significant adjustment to its Clubcard program. The Tesco Clubcard initiative offers discounted prices on specific items in stores to its members, enabling supermarket shoppers to accumulate points that can be converted into supermarket vouchers.

However, the Clubcard loyalty program is presently only accessible to individuals aged 18 and above, a limitation that has been criticized by Which? as unfair to younger customers, potentially hindering their savings opportunities. In response to this concern, Tesco has officially announced its plans to extend Clubcard eligibility to individuals under the age of 18 within the current year.

A spokesperson for Tesco stated, “We are actively assessing Tesco Clubcard with the aim of making it accessible to individuals under 18 this year.” Reena Sewraz, Retail Editor at Which?, emphasized the significance of Tesco Clubcard savings for consumers striving to manage their finances, expressing satisfaction that Tesco has heeded the call to include younger individuals and urging prompt implementation of the changes.

Tesco shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every pound spent on groceries both in-store and online, or one point for every two liters of fuel purchased at Tesco petrol stations.

The initial group affected by the change includes individuals born between April 6, 1960, and May 5, 1960, who will now have to wait until they reach the age of 66 and one month to begin claiming their state pension.

Both in-store and online non-food sales witnessed growth, with retailers experiencing heightened activity following a slower December period.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) and KPMG reported a positive start to the year for the retail sector, with notable sales growth driven by consumer spending on personal electronics, furniture, children’s clothes, and toys.
