Local authorities have cautioned swimmers against participating in sea activities during the festive season due to hazardous conditions characterized by turbulent seas and frigid temperatures. Eyewitness Julia Robb recalled the Christmas Day scene as bitterly cold and blustery, with waves reaching heights of at least 6ft.
