The Christian Democrat Union (CDU) in Germany had to cancel its first major meeting of the year due to the severe weather alerts and related risks, along with anticipated train and flight cancellations.
Germany’s national meteorological service, the DWD, issued a warning stating that Bavaria and other regions would experience fresh snowfall, with snowfall amounts varying from 3 to 15 centimeters in different areas.
While Storm Elli affects Germany and France with strong winds and snow, the UK is under the influence of Storm Goretti. The Met Office has advised of possible wintry weather returning after a brief break on Saturday.
Steve Willington, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, cautioned that low temperatures and ice risks would persist, with snow expected in parts of Scotland and northern England on Sunday. Accumulations of 2-20cm are possible, leading to potential disruptions in areas already heavily impacted by snowfall.
