The Canadian hockey drama series, “Heated Rivalry,” is amping up its star power as it gears up for its second season. The show, which gained international acclaim in its first season and helped elevate the careers of lead actors Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud, has announced the addition of three new cast members.
The fresh faces joining the cast include Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element,” as well as Kevin Zegers, hailing from Woodstock, Ont., who has appeared in series like “Gossip Girl” and films such as “Transamerica.” Additionally, Canadian actor Paul Gross, recognized for his work in “Due South” and films like “Men With Brooms” and “Passchendaele,” will also be joining the ensemble.
Based on Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, “Heated Rivalry” delves into the clandestine romance between two competitive ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross is set to portray Roger Crowell, the hockey league commissioner, while Kevin Zegers will embody Coach Wiebe of the Ottawa Centaurs, the team Rozanov plays for in the upcoming season. Milla Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist who supports Rozanov.
The new season will also see the return of Season 1 actors Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh, alongside a lineup of talented Canadian actors. Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka are among the new additions to the cast for Season 2.
Creator and director Jacob Tierney’s close friendship with Emily Hampshire has led to her involvement in the series, with Hampshire expressing her excitement for being part of the show. Despite not being eligible for the Primetime Emmys this year, “Heated Rivalry” has made a significant impact, winning multiple awards at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Filming for the second season of “Heated Rivalry” commenced on August 17, with a scheduled premiere on Crave in Spring 2027.
