The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported that a 47-year-old man was killed in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, situated between Badger and South Brook. Upon police arrival, both vehicles were engulfed in flames.
The driver of one truck, a 47-year-old man heading east, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment, where they remain under care. The police response necessitated the closure of a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook for several hours on Tuesday.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, as authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
