These scammers take advantage of major shopping events by using fake offers, phishing emails, and imitation websites to deceive unsuspecting individuals into sharing personal information or payment details. Security experts highlight the high-pressure shopping environment of Prime Day as a prime target for such fraudulent activities.
Check Point’s security team discovered a significant increase in new Amazon-related web domains globally, with 6,843 domains registered between December 2025 and last month. April witnessed the highest surge, with 1,446 new domains created in a single month. This timing is worrisome as attackers can use this period to establish “aged” malicious domains, making them appear legitimate and evade detection before Prime Day.
While the majority of these domains are safe, Check Point identified that approximately one in every 11 newly created Amazon-themed domains was either malicious or suspicious. Scammers capitalize on mimicking normal shopping behavior during Prime Day, including familiar branding, convincing checkout pages, delivery alerts, and creating a sense of urgency.
To protect oneself from scams during Prime Day, shoppers are advised to take simple precautions. Firstly, carefully verify the website address before entering any information, as scammers often replicate Amazon’s genuine site. Look out for discrepancies such as extra characters, hyphenated brand names, or unusual domain endings like .top or .online.
Additionally, avoid clicking on links from emails, text messages, or social media posts. Instead, manually type Amazon’s website address in the browser. Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true, messages claiming refunds, or alerts pressuring immediate action as these are common tactics used by scammers to create urgency.
Another red flag is receiving fake warnings about Prime accounts being suspended. If such a message is received, it is recommended to verify the information directly on Amazon’s official website. By following these steps, shoppers can enjoy Prime Day without falling prey to scammers.
