Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have reportedly reached an agreement to face each other in an anticipated heavyweight battle, with significant details now disclosed. Earlier in December, news surfaced about the long-standing rivalry between the two finally culminating in a ring showdown in 2026. However, shortly after his victory over Jake Paul during the recent Christmas period, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, leading to the untimely deaths of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Lateef ‘Latz’ Ayodele.
Despite concerns that Joshua might never return to boxing following the near-fatal incident, the former two-time heavyweight champion is back in light training mode, hinting at a potential ring comeback this summer. Speculations suggest that Joshua might first take on former rival Dillian Whyte before setting up a clash with Fury.
Renowned boxing journalist Gareth A Davies confirmed that both Fury and Joshua have officially agreed to square off. Davies disclosed on talkSPORT that the fight deal is already finalized behind the scenes, stating, “The Fury-Joshua fight is signed. Okay, it is signed in the background. I’ve got that on good authority.”
Davies further revealed that the anticipated match is expected to be broadcast on Netflix, potentially happening either later this year or in the upcoming year, with Joshua likely to make his return to the ring around June or July. Highlighting Netflix’s growing influence in the boxing world, recent broadcasts have included high-profile bouts such as Paul vs Joshua, Alvarez vs Crawford, Taylor vs Serrano, and Paul vs Mike Tyson.
Netflix is set to air Fury’s comeback on April 11, as the ‘Gypsy King’ prepares to face Russian knockout artist Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Meanwhile, Joshua is edging closer to resuming full training in anticipation of his comeback to the squared-circle later in the year. Despite the challenges faced, promoter Eddie Hearn remains optimistic about the possibility of a future blockbuster bout between Fury and Joshua, potentially towards the end of the year or early next year.
